The Michigan chapter held its annual award banquet on October 5, 2012 at the beautiful Shenandoah Country Club in West Bloomfield Township. Over 100 supporters, members and sponsors attended the event. The event started with the National Anthem sung by none other than Ms. Danielle Arida who was a hit also at last year’s banquet. Wayne State University and Lawrence Technological University professors, Dean of Engineering College and the Civil and Environmental Department Chair attended the banquet as well as elected official.
The key note speaker was Dr. Saeed Barbat, Executive Technical Leader for Safety/Ford Research and Advanced Engineering. Dr. Barbat discussed safety design trends in the auto industry and global challenges for the design team since different countries value safety differently. The chapter presented Dr. Barbat with a gift from the Arab American National Museum.
Mr. Ali Dib, AAAEA-MI Trustee presented the individual awards. Two Chapter awards were presented at the banquet. The Leadership in Community award went to Mr. George Karmo, president of Tucker, Young, Jackson, Tull, Inc., a regional consulting engineering firm, for his accomplishments and for his continued support of the AAAEA-Michigan chapter.
The second award, The Ibn Al-Haytham award is given to a AAAEA_MI member who provided the greatest contribution to the chapter in the past year. This year’s recipient is Mr. Andre Hindo, Project Manager with Walsh Group. Andre has been a member of the Michigan chapter since its inception and always you could count on him.
Ali also presented Awni Qaqish with the chapter appreciation award for his term as the 2011 president.
